Summer has arrived, and with it comes the perfect excuse to break out the blanket, soak up the sunshine, and savor the simple joy of a picnic. Whether you’re imagining a chic, wine-sipping tailgate, a leisurely afternoon in a sun-dappled field, or a spontaneous snack break on your favorite park bench, one thing is certain: picnics are the ultimate way to elevate any moment.

As someone who’s loved picnics forever—and now with a bit more experience under my belt—I realize they’re really just a refined, relaxed version of those childhood snack moments. Only now, it’s about creating an effortless scene that feels both sophisticated and fun. There’s no one way to picnic; it’s all about making it uniquely yours.

That said, I know the thought of packing everything up, keeping the food fresh, and pulling together the perfect vibe can sometimes feel a little daunting. Will the sandwiches go soggy? Will the drinks stay cold? And will the whole thing live up to your expectations?

Here’s the truth: the best picnics are about simplicity and thoughtful details. No fuss, no stress—just beautifully curated moments that feel both refined and relaxed. Whether you’re selecting artisanal bites, choosing a stylish blanket, or setting the scene with just the right touches, the goal is to craft an experience that turns an ordinary outing into something memorable.

And remember, a truly special picnic isn’t just about what you bring — it’s about how everything flows together. Think about your surroundings, your table setting, your food, and the atmosphere you want to create. When those elements come together seamlessly, even the simplest ingredients feel extraordinary.

Some of my favorite essentials include:

  • French linens

  • Cozy wool blankets

  • Vintage tiffins for easy storage and transport

  • Durable Duralex wine glasses that look elevated but won’t break

  • Wood for a bonfire (nothing beats smelling like smoke after a beach picnic)

  • Tekla lantern for warm evening lighting

  • Rattan or wicker baskets for chic carrying

  • A good knife and corkscrew

  • Real cloth napkins — because details matter

  • Next time you’re at the flea market or thrift store, keep an eye out for that perfect silverware set — it’s worth having on hand for those special picnics. And a chunky, cozy sweater? Always a good idea.

For my go-to daytime and evening picnic recipes — from an unexpected, delicious sandwich to a filling, more-than-just-wine-and-cheese dinner — click below. Because no matter the occasion, the goal is simple: create moments that feel effortless, beautiful, and full of flavor.
